Sites I like
Lori Smith has been taking photographs since the late 1980s, but her current obsession with still images can be traced back to January 2002 when she received a strange four-lensed camera for her birthday. One visit to lomography.com later and she was hooked on creative, rather than social, photography. The subsequent purchase of a Lomo LC-A and her activites on the Lomographic Society's website lead to the creation of lomomanchester.org (now known as Just Shoot) in January 2004, a place for experimental photographers and fans of 'toy' cameras to chat and arrange meetings. Since then, Lori has been involved in three exhibitions with the group: a photo-covered life-sized bovine in 2004's Cow Parade in Manchester, plus more traditional displays in Font Bar and Kro2 in the Oxford Road area of the city. To extend her knowledge of photography futher, she has taken two City & Guilds basic courses and has recently completed part-time studies for an AS Level Photography qualification.
In addition, Lori spends some of her spare time writing and has submitted many articles to The F-Word, one of which was published in an educational book about self-esteem and body image. After writing for a variety of websites, this personal site and blog was started in 2003 as an outlet for the articles that no one else in their right mind would publish. The archives for the first three years are now unavailable in the hope that a spring clean will leave the site rereshed and somewhat improved. Much credit should be given to Edward Jung (design) and Jon Topper (technical assistance) for the current look and availability of this incarnation of Lori's website.
