Quiet time
Despite the fact that my Macbook seems to crash every time I attampt to charge my iPod, the daily commute is still filled with noise. The walk to the station is accompanied by the rumble of buses, the train journey is filled with announcements, and even the lift announces each floor it stops off at on the way up to the 8th. However, when I get to work... silence. No radio, hardly any phone calls and not much chatter. This is going to take some getting used to.

Why is it so hard...
...to install an internet connection? We filled in a form on NTL's website a week before we moved to say that we wanted to transfer the account to our new address. The website told us that the service was available in the postcode we were moving to, so we just sat back and waited to hear from them. Three and a half weeks later they informed us that they 'probably' couldn't service our new address. Now I know why people moan about NTL. They were fine until we actually had to deal with their customer services (sic).
So, how long do you reckon it'll take Bulldog to connect us (or not)? It's OK visiting Topper's office and the local library to get my fix now, but I start my new job on Monday and so it'll become more tricky. Hopefully they'll let me use the internet at lunch time and won't ban every useful site in the universe. However, if I want to get some work done I had probably better get this addiction out of my system now while I have the chance.

Getting organised
I'm now living even further south east than where I was born, and it's going to take a teeny bit of getting used to. Modern trains from the local station, people speaking using the same vowel sounds as me, warm weather, being able to recycle plastic and cardboard stuff... it's the simple things that are fascinating to me. Still, less than three working days after the move, I managed to secure myself some suitably paid employment that looks to be a great improvement on the last place. Instead of being wedged between two Old Traffords (of the cricket and football varieties), with nothing to do at lunch time but visit Wetherspoons or sit at my desk, I shall now be within walking distance of plenty of South Bank goodness. Galleries and eating my sandwiches by the river, instead of over-priced canteen food and nasty butty shops. Plus, my commute will be 100% over ground and less than 45mins each way (depending on how fast I can walk to/from the stations).
Now I just need internet access from home, and somewhere to store all the CDs and DVDs we seem to have accumulated. I think one is going to be far easier then the other.
